REPORT POSTED: MONDAY JULY 26th. THE
FISH HAVE MADE IT UP THE NORTHFORK!!!! THE RIVERS ARE LOOKING GOOD, HERE WE GO!!!!! CALL THE SHOP FOR UP TO THE
MINUTE WATER CONDITIONS. LAKES ARE FISHING VERY WELL!!!
|
TAILWATERS:
THE LOWER SHOSHONE:
18 inches of visibility, FISHIONG WELL TO STREAMERS AND NYMPHS!!!
THE BIGHORN RIVER: THERMOPOLIS:
LOOKING GOOD AND FISHING WELL..
Don't forget a full selection of scuds and sowbugs along with
small mayfly nymphs and midge nymphs, bring your streamers in all
colors but the basics will catch fish. we all know they don't eat dry
flies all day everyday so be prepared to go deep.
Same as the lower Shoshone but these fish are
bigger, stronger and smarter. You will need lighter tippets here,
longer casts that need to be deadly accurate, in other words if you
are a beginner I don't suggest this river, the lower Shoshone is a
better river for beginners and can still challenge anglers of any
level.
WILD RIVERS:
THE NORTHFORK OF THE SHOSHONE: LOOKING
GREAT FISHING EVEN BETTER!!! The northfork
is FISHING GREAT , the fish are all the up and they are very high
quality. These hogs will be raising heart rates and busting tippett
for next few months. 16 inchers will be considered small. Grasshopper
patterns rigged with beadheads, Big stonefly
nymphs will be very important, sizes 2 through 12, do not forget your
stonefly dries, you never know when you will run into a golden stone
hatch. Mayfly nymphs sizes 10 through 16 with matching dries.
Streamers are always important when you are fishing for hogs, the
lake trout that are up the northfork will really slam streamers when
given the opportunity. all general beadheads in sizes 2 through 16
will work if you get it in their faces.
UPPER CLARKSFORK OF THE YELLOWSTONE :
FISHING WELL!!!!
This river has very good hatches this time of year , golden stones
along with a few other stoneflies in smaller sizes,P.M.D. mayflies,
green drakes, you have to be ready for anything. THE LOWER CLARKSFORK:
FISHING GREAT. Grasshoppers, Big stonefly stuff in
sizes 4 through 14, big mayfly nymphs in sizes 10 through 16,
all stages of the caddis in the evenings and mornings, Streamers are
always important for the big boys. DONT FORGET YOUR HOPPERS!!! We have
a million hoppers out in sizes 8 through 14.
LAKES. DAMSELFLY
STUFF IS VERY
IMPORTANT RIGHT NOW IN ALL AREA LAKES. The high
dessert lakes around cody are fishing like crazy!!!. This may be the best time of
year to land a 20+ inch trout. East
Newton: looking good, damselfly nymphs and adults are now extremely
important. Midges in sizes
14 through 18 nymphs and dries, scuds ,sowbugs and streamers.
Upper Sunshine
reservoir
: This piece of water is finally ready, fat cutthroat from 12 to 23
inches populate this lake. Streamers, scuds, damsel nymphs and
callibaetis nymphs are all on the menu. Bring your 2x tippet because
these critters are not tippett shy this time of year. Always be ready
with a few dry midges in sizes 16 through 22, midge cluster patterns
are very effective. LUCE AND HOGAN LAKES: Fishing very well with the same
bugs as newton and sunshine. PLEASE CALL THE SHOP FOR UP TO THE
MINUTE CONDITIONS.
