Cody, Wyoming,
"home to thousands of lonely
trout" the key word for fly fishing in
Cody is
solitude. In most cases, when we fish we are pretty much alone. You will
not have to fight the crowds like you will in Jackson Hole, Bozeman,
West Yellowstone or many other famous fly fishing destinations. The
lack of pressure here does a few things. First, this area in most
places doesn't have cynical overly educated fish. Second, we have
great numbers of high quality fish. It was once said, "famous rivers
are there for a reason, to keep people away from the really good
ones." In Cody we know this statement is true. Our river names,
may not ring a bell with |

millions of fisherman like the Yellowstone or
Madison, and for this we are thankful. When people come from the famous rivers of Bozeman and
Jackson Hole to Cody's rivers, the typical statement you hear goes
something like this "I can't believe I have never heard of this area"
or "with fishing like this why have we been putting up
with those Montana Crowds?" So Remember if you say "I've never heard
of Cody, Wyoming in fly fishing magazines," that's probably why
you should go, because very few others have discovered it yet. |

Meet
Mike Mufich- Owner
Mike "Moof" Mufich began
fly fishing at the age of four. By the time he was 20 he was "fly fishing
crazy" and started a lengthy trout-bumming career. The last 15 years he
has been trout-bumming or guiding. At the age of 27 he started guiding for Northfork Anglers
in Cody and by the
age of 33 he started his own shop. He's fished from Argentina to Alaska
and when asked about his fly fishing future, he'll tell you "I'm just
getting warmed up." His ultimate goal is to end his career the same way he
started it, as a trout bum.
Mike's philosophy of life
is a tradition in the Mufich family which began in the 1930's with Mike's grandfather Martin "Murph"
Mufich who always preferred the fly over bait and spinners. "Murph" started his
family in Crested Butte, Colorado, when it was just an obscure little
mining town. He started his son Martin "Moof" Mufich fly fishing
at the age of four. After growing up in an outdoor heaven, Martin went on
to a 32 year career in the U.S. Forest Service. Over the years, he worked
in fire, timber, range and wildlife management.
Mike's passion for the
sport was given to him by these two men. The greatest lessons he received
from his grandpa and dad were on conservation of all things natural, but
that nature had to be used for many things. It can house us, feed us to a
point but more than anything, this incredible resource is there to inspire
us in a way that nothing man made is capable of doing. The last lesson he
learned before he was let alone in the wild, was the point that wild
places should always remain wild and that upon entrance to these places,
we are all charged with it's protection and well being.
